How are you finding motorway changes?

On the routes affected by redesignation? Is the limit increased on all now? There is more to come btw. N2 to become motorway and N25 seem the obvious - but the N6 to Galway is certain I think. Other candiates include dc's in Cork.

In fact depending on how lenient the NRA want to be the next group of roads could be bigger with large sections of the N11 deserving of Mway status.

Well, I've not been on the M6 since it was officially upgraded, but the 100kmh limit was largely ignored by the vast majority of motorists. So I would expect that apart from the 120kmh signs, it'll be exactly the same.

I'm sure learners & tractors will continue to use them for a while, well until told to f*ck off by the gardai

Much better knowing you aren't gonna get stopped for going 120. That really annoyed me.

Has anyone driven the Cashel bypass and is it still 100kph or been put up to 120kph ?

To me that stretch of dual carriageway is good enough for 120kph.

    Still 100, as they said...

Nope, unfortunately that won't be upgraded to 120, though like you say I think any divided carriageway is good for at least 120.

Remember that in spite of the fact that we can now go at 120 instead of a laughable 100, these roads are actually designed for 160 km/h, so I don't see why we can't have a higher speed limit than just 75% of what these roads were designed for.

There has to be some room for redudancy...

I wouldn't rule out an increase to 130, 140 or even (if we really wanna push it) to 150.

But 160 is simply a maximum design speed to ensure safety. For optimum safety, a speed limit closer to 120/130 is much more acceptable.

How come it won't go to 120? It's in the ministerial order, to be redesignated as a motorway.

    Motorway doesn't have to mean 120 km/h.

As far as I know, the plan was always to keep the Cashel-bypass at 100 kmp/h.

And speaking of Cashel (and Cahir, acutally), still plenty of sloppy signage about. (Green signs where there should be blue etc.)

Coming out of Cahir or Clonmel for example the road is the 'N8', suddenly when you get to the junction it's the 'M8'. Now obviously N8 and M8 are both legislatively the N8. BUT... it is stupid because it leads traffic to belief the road they are heading towards is non-motorway and open to all traffic until they get to the actual road and discover, perhaps, that they can't travel on it.
