This is kinda weird. Your attenuation suggests a max of 4 megs, yet you've sync'd at 8 megs (9.2 with Smart). Your line is still extremely noisy though.

Its ADSL 2+, ya I'm surprised woth the sync speed. Rebooted there and it synced at 8.5Mb. And the speed tests I run show 6.5-7.5 Mb download.

Margin 8db, you will not get any faster . Smart _synch_ at the fastest possible speed irrespective of your package.

If you lived next door to the exchange it would synch at c.22mbit but you would still get your 4mbit or 8mbit package in terms of data thruput .

Dam. Brand new house in a new development less than 2km from the exchange. Poor from eircom. Im getting a margin of 9.5 now and a sync of 8.2Mb. So thats the absolute max I can get? I thought Id get 20Mb...:(

    you won't get 20mb @ 2km anyway , c.12-15 maybe

Its not entirely a case of poor from Eircom, as Sponge has already said you wouldn't get 20mbit at 2km even with an ideal line. You should be getting a bit more than 8mbit though, maybe try unplugging anything else pluged into the phoneline out and plug the modem into the main phone socket and see do you get a higher sync speed.

Did that. Its ok anyway just thought it'd be a better line!
