Ryanair used it all the time with Bertie.

What's the legal basis of using a caricature of a politician for a print advert? (Fax campaign)

I don't see what legal issues would arise unless it was in some way defamatory.

Some celebrities have tried to restrict the use of their image but mostly unsuccessfully AFAIK. Although Gorbachev did manage to copyright his birthmark in order to prohibit some sort of pottery with his picture on it. You can't copyright your face though.

There was some trouble about a Ryanair ad in Italy recently where they used a picture of an Italian Minister giving the two fingers with the caption saying something about this is what AirItalia thinks of its customers. The Government wanted to ban Ryanair from Italy for offending the nation or something like that.

    What are you getting at?

It would be in no way defamatory the ad would be simply relating the politician preaching about saving money and the product offering savings.

    Then there's no issue.
