Problem getting prints done - who is best online??

    Hi All

I use Bonusprint for general photos - quality is OK for what I need.

However I decided to try out a large print with a lot of green in the foreground - there was no definition in the green at all in the print - it just became blurred.

On screen you could see grass detail, but printed it lost everything.

Can anyone reccommend an online photo print service (does not need to be cheap) that would not give me problems as described?

    Ta.

Photobox and Reads have variously done large prints for me and I have been happy with them.

However, before making any recommendation I would not mind seeing the file in question.

I had a similar problem which has been the final straw with Harvey Norman's (of which others here have had good experiences it must be said).

It was a subject (flower) primarily whites and shades thereof on an almost black background.

Got it blown up in Harvey Normans and it was awful - there was a complete loss of definition of the petals of the flower - the subtle shades of white/cream just were recognised by their developing process. At this stage i was beginning to think that it was my photography (could still be true ;) ) but i used snapfish which i had previously used. The difference was unreal - they were like two different images, the harvey norman was consigned to the bin after that and i haven't gone near them since.

Snapfish are great value too although have a limitation in terms of printing in anything other than gloss. Its gloss finish all the way with them.

Now, the disclaimer - this was just a personal experience. If the issue that you are experiencing is similar in nature this might be a solution for you but this mightn't solve the issue. Having said that you could try it out for about €10 for a 20X30 so you wouldn't lose your house if it didn't work out correctly.

    Hope that helps.

It's hard to say what the problem is without getting a look at your computer. It could be an issue with your monitor calibration and/or your colourspace you're using. So take a look at that first, e.g. is you're gamma set very high, etc, so there's a mismatch between what you see and what your computer is actually doing. Try calibrating your monitor.

Otherwise, it'd probably just a rubbish printer so take it somewhere else. On the other hand, it could be a bit of both. As for printers, depends where you are, but I'd try Conn's or Gunn's - anywhere using an Agfa machine. I've been happy with the results most times, and find that matte paper brings digital prints out best.

Not sure about Conns, but aren't Gunns using Fujifilm printers these days?

I'm still a big fan of mypix. After buying 1200 pics off them I didnt see a prob on anyone, I've used them on and off for small orders also. My largest print that I got was I think the 16 x 23 but again there was nothing to complain about at all.

Suppose I find Conns a little inconsistent. TBH, in future, for proper photos, I think I'm just going to get lambda prints done.
