PayPal exchange rate question

I buy a lot of stuff on eBay UK. However the only time I know precisely what I will have to pay is after the auction when I go to pay with paypal.

Is there any way I can get the PayPal exchange rate before the conclusion of an auction?

Please don't mention xe.com or anything like that because its exchange rate is never the same as PayPal's one.

    Ta! :)

They don't seem to publish their current rates anywhere, but you do get a conversion if you go to the Send Money section, and enter an amount and a currency. Like this:

    paypalyv9.jpg

The converted amount is shown below the box where you enter the amount you want to send. Select a currency, and click one of the radial buttons for payment type.

From what I've read, Paypal update their conversion rates twice a day.

Nobody gets the XE rate, dunno why people think they would either, you don't in the banks.

I just check on XE and add ~3%. Paypals rate is actually pretty good compared to what a bank would give you.

Ebay should have an option showing the paypal current rate e.g. if you are looking on ebay at prices in £ it should show them in euro at the current paypal rate. I know if you look on ebay.ie it is shown in euro, but I think that is an XE type conversion, i.e. you will never get it. Must check this next time I buy.

Just checked, had an item on .ie which was 11.99 australian dollars, on ebay it had €6.89 in euro, and on paypal it was €7.00, so 1.5% more.

£67.73 was said to be €85.14, but €87.44 on paypal. so 2.7% more.

Just be aware that the rates change daily, so if you bid early on an auction you might pay more than you estimated, but you should NEVER bid early on an auction! only reason would be to prevent it being pulled.
