Please forgive the bizarre topic title. I just got several duplicate emails from one of my friends' address, which was seemingly sent to all contacts in his address book. The email read as follows:
HI, here is let you excited place!
The here is a big dealer, nike, Gucci, Puma, Bape, A & F, D& G, Adidas, Chanel, Fendi, shoe, wrap, POLO, clothes, the the sun mirror, microphone, Watches, a lot of products all at our sell the scope!
There are a lot of special products here, the quality assurance, accept the paypal!
    Introduces it to you: www.sellgooditem.com

I googled the message subject, and it came up with a few hits of people seemingly having automatically posted the same or similar message on message boards / other input fields. There didn't seem to be any discussion of it however.

The name comes up as from "James [last name]", but then says it is from gmail.com in the view more panel.

Anyone got any ideas/more info on this?

Check and see if your friend has signed up for any site that checks your email address book to see if you have any contacts on the site. The way that facebook and some other sites do?

Let us know what site he did that on. Would be interesting to know.

Just get your friend to change her/his email password and he/she will be fine. Same sorta thing happened to me but with a different email, I just changed my password and nothing's happened since.
