As I mentioned the other day, finally managed to get some shots of birds of prey after wanting to for a good while.

There is a great place up in Ballymote Co. Sligo, www.eaglesflying.com. If there is ever a meet up there, they take groups and don't mind cameras. I'd certainly go again.

A few pics below with full sets on Pix and Flickr.

these look great, especially the 'in-flight' shots - they look sharp.

Are the tied up goats in the background the prey??

As for the last one - remove the sky in the background and replace it with a US flag and make loads of $$$ for that. They love that kind of thing, especially with the elections coming up

Nice pics! BTW there was a falconry demonstration last Sunday at Kilruddery House near Bray, and there's a repeat this weekend on the 28th. The gardens are open from 1 to 5pm, and the falconry display is at 3pm (in theory at least). The birds are there from 1pm, so if you want some nice static pictures get there early before the hordes of screaming kids arrive!

    Here's a few of mine ...

    Thanks all.

Just dead chicks fed to them while we were there cambo. ;) Although a crow did chance his arm when he landed beside one of them up in a tree!

Thanks Alun. I might have something else on on Sunday, but cheers anyway. Nice shots too.

The owl was totally different to the rest (obviously!). Just the size of it and the way it flew. Compared to the 7kg bald eagle, it could perch on just a single finger. Not sure how old No.4 was. It looks young there but I think it's just because its feathers were ruffled. It is right in the middle of the crowd there. It was following the handler through the crowd and kind of crash landed.

Thanks Dades, love the shots of the bald eagle myself.

These are great shots too Alun. Really sharp, nice colours and good DOF (must have used an f/2.0 or similar lens - wish i had one :( )

I especially like the last one, great shot!

Thanks for the nice comments. Actually, most of them were taken from a reasonable distance, as I didn't want to freak the birds out too much, using my Sigma 70-300 zoom, and that certainly won't go to f2 :) I actually had the camera on shutter priority to cut down on shake, so the DOF was purely accidental (sometimes you just get lucky, I guess).

Anyway, if you click on the images it'll take you to the pix.ie page they are linked to and you can see details in Additional info- More properties, down to the left of the photo.
