Magyar Telekom to roll out FTTH, Eurodocsis 3.0 Wednesday 24 September 2008 | 10:33 AM CET

Magyar Telekom has unveiled plans to roll out new high-speed access technologies on its fixed and cable networks. The investment programme targets delivering super-fast broadband services to 1.2 million households by the end of 2013. Magyar Telekom will roll out a fibre-to-the-home network using mainly GPON technology to around 200,000 households by end-2009 and increase this number to 780,000 homes by end-2013. At the same time, Magyar Telekom will upgrade its hybrid-fibre-coax cable network to EuroDocsis 3.0, to reach an additional 380,000 households with high-bandwidth services by end-2009. Magyar Telekom plans to spend a total HUF 40 billion on the new access technologies over the period 2009-2013. That includes around HUF 10 billion for the fibre roll-out and EuroDocsis 3.0 network upgrade in 2009. Overall, the capital expenditure budget next year should still be line with the amount spent this year, the operator said.
