Best Farmers' Markets

    Hiya,

Can anyone tell me what are the best farmers' markets around the east coast (especially outside Dublin city) ? I live in Louth and they are in short supply around here but I like heading off at weekends to discover new things.

And in particular, anyone know where I can get really nice homemade pasta? I can make it myself but just too lazy at times. I haven't seen any available among the artisan/specialist produce at markets and the supermarket stuff isn't usually up to scratch.

Isn't there a decent Farmer's Market in Drogheda on a Saturday morning?

Howth is worth a trip on a Sunday. Wrights of Howth are great for fresh fish and there are numerous vendors along the harbour. It's a nice way to pass a couple of hours if the weather's good.

Clodagh McKenna did that series on RTE where she visited a load of different markets around Ireland. She has a list on her website of different irish markets http://www.clodaghmckenna.com/farmers_market_ireland.htm

That might be of some use to you.

If you shop up a little further up the pier the fish gets cheaper

AFAIK none is selling fresh homemade pasta (only dry pasta); especially if it's egg pasta it is a very delicate product and I don't think that it can be sold in farmet markets (haccp regulations, I think)
