apparantly sean kavanagh knocked over some fellow going in at half time. i didnt see if myself during the game as i was watching darragh o shea getting booked, but i did see tv footage of some lad on the ground. there were other reports of something happening in the tunnel.

nothing will happen here anyway, if there is anything in the report, surely the ref would have taken action during the game and booked/sent off the players in question.

these things happen, its what happened after the game with gooch that p*sses me off.

Seen some big lad getting knocked over at HT alright, he sure was no member of any teams backroom staff, was more like a fellow who would have a hiace van parked outside with a few carpets in the van, was a big lad.

What happened to Gooch after the game?

was in a few papers that he got "tapped" accross the head by a few fans after the game running on to the pitch. why they had to single out one of the best players in gaa at the moment is beyond me. i didnt see it and dont know how forceful the tap/slap was, but it shouldnt have happened.

saying this lads, im only going on what i read in papers. i didnt not see this myself. kerry county board not taking any action anyway on either incident as far as im aware.

i will try find some links

ah i wouldn go that far, im just p*ssed off that fans would resort to this. last time i was on the pitch, first thing i did was went to the opposition goalie and patted him on he back and wished him well. some fans are just bad winners.

here is a report on the whole thing. shiibata, your off the mark calling our vice chairman a "hiace driver" for one of better words.

the gooch bit is highlighted here, from this, looks like the fan was hassling gooch who was ignosring him and trying to get the lad out of his way and then went for him. fans like this are not welcome in the gaa.

    GAA to probe half-time incident
    23 September 2008

The GAA is set to launch an investigation into the incident which saw Kerry vice-chairman Patrick O’Sullivan knocked to the ground as the teams made their way off the field at half-time during Sunday’s All-Ireland final.

A Tyrone player allegedly barged into O’Sullivan as he was making his way off the field, causing the startled Kerry official to lose his footing and fall to the ground close to the tunnel area under the Hogan Stand. The same player is also alleged to have collided with Kerry manager Pat O’Shea as the first half ended with tensions running high. The half-time whistle came on the back of yellow cards being brandished to Kerry pair Aidan O’Mahony and Darragh O Se.

The Kerry county board aren’t expected to lodge a formal complaint about the incidents and may also overlook the treatment of Colm Cooper by one of the Tyrone supporters as he made his way off the field after the final whistle. The fan is question allegedly raised his hand to Cooper as the Kerry attacker pushed past him, but was then restrained by other Tyrone supporters around him.

Kerry chairman Jermone Conway played down the half-time incidents by saying: "Things happen in the heat of battle so Kerry will not be looking for any further action in what you say happened."

Pat O’Shea refused to criticise the performance of Laois referee Maurice Deegan, who allowed a number of Tyrone players to commit a series of personal fouls without issuing them with yellow cards.

"It is not my place to comment on the performance of a referee. Referees go out and try to do their best. All we can do is be thankful that we have referees and good referees in our game. Performances are scrutinised to the finest detail. I’d have nothing to say on that - the referee didn’t cost us the game."

If true, its unexcusable but having watched the footage of the match and celebrations over and over again on TV, I noticed cooper leaving the pitch with a Tyrone supporter beside him but he didn't look too annoyed other than a bit dissapointed that they had lost, but he seemed to be chatting away to this particular fella.

Also agree, if true, then its unexcusable.. but the way fans are allowed straight onto the pitch after the whistle goes is asking for trouble.
Sure if Kerry had won the last day, it could be a statement from the Tyrone county board we could be looking at today.

I still remember that picture of Gooch on one knee signing autographs for a Mayo young fella after the 2004 final whistle had gone.

The guys an ambassador for the sport and anyone that decides to assault him after a game where your team has just WON is a thug. No excuses.

I completely agree ... It doesn't matter what happens on the field of play when this man is concerned; off the pitch he is one of the most level-headed and never forgets where it all started for him - at the grass-roots level, at club-level. He certainly is an ambassador for the GAA

He is a member of the Kerry backroom staff and an investigation is pending but he had no place on the sidelines especially at half-time in my opinion, none of the backroom staff have

I have to agree with you here. I don't see any reason why a Deputy Chairman is on the sideline anyway unless its to be seen. I thought the GAA introduced regulations recently regarding who was allowed to be on the sidelines, enter the pitch etc etc

I'd be surprised it was Cavanagh. He appeared to busy trying to get O'Se back, he should have been carded too for the reaction.

Anyway, appear the lads wanted to celebrate the silver anniversary of the Dirty Dozen by reenacting it! Seems the GAA hasn't moved on from then!

True, you can't call these fans, thugs is a better term.

It's a shame, but it may come to that eventually. There's been a few types of incidents like this, not just Sunday.

I saw it happening alright. It was very funny. Your description is fairly accurate. He didn't look much like your regular county board official. He looked like the kind of a lad that isn't long finished playing himself.
