Go to www.xe.com for exchange rates ,

    And regarding this ...

You need to be really careful , Czech businesses and especially hotels are masters at working the exchange rate in favour of themselves , sometimes to the tune of 20%.

Prague is not cheap anymore , not unless you have time to hunt out the non touristy areas , but if your only going for 4 days why would you do that ?

Taxis from the airport are notoriously expensive , however the trams are very cheap and are really all you need.

Expect to pay around the same prices you would pay in Dublin for a four visit.

It is however , a beautiful city with plenty to see. Enjoy.

Sorry, but that's well wide of the mark. If you're spending the same as in Dublin, you really are in the wrong places! Sure there are plenty of tourist rip off places, but the cheaper, more 'local' places are hardly off the beaten track. I can think of half a dozen decently priced places within one minute's walk of Wenceslas Square! Avoid Irish pubs and restaurants on the Square and you'll be fine for the most part.

If you find the taxis from the airport too expensive, get the Cedaz minibus for aonly about €3.

OP, just get Kc from the ATM, same as home - your card will work there. You can also use your credit card no problem - if they offer to bill in euros (which I have never come across) simply say no and pay in Kc instead. There are loads of threads if you search this forum also with plenty of sightseeing and eating and drinking ideas!

On a first visit to prague how the hell is anyone supposed to be in the know about where to go ?

The fact is , for the first time there , you want to be as central as possible and you want to be in the touristy areas , so expect the same prices as Dublin , thats the reality.
I should also point out that is was quite recently I was there , and prices have shot up over the last 2 years , even in " off the beaten track" locations.

I was in Prague 10 days ago

There are approx 23-25 Czech crowns per euro.

Beware of the rip of change booths in the centre of town , and DO NOT change money on the street you will be ripped of

Change up here if I was you ( might be worse rate but no risk )

Prices, Well I used a restaurant in the centre of town , and that was around Dublin prices . I also ate at a restuarant further out ( Flora ) , and that was really cheap/good, cost approx the equiv of 44 euro for 3 people plus beer ( full meal )

The metro is fantastic and really cheap , costs about 4 euro per day for a 24 hr tkt that also works onthe trams.

Taxi from the airport , use AAA cabs, cost about 600-700 KzC ( of course I have no idea where your hotel is ). I actually found some hotels will provide free transfers.

Watch for pickpockets , they are rife in the tourist areas, just be aware.

Almost without exception, the best foreign exchange deals for all currencies are got by using local ATMs. You'll find them at the airport.

If, for some reason, you can't get Kc at the airport, taxi operators (use only AAA) will make a deal in Euros that will be a bit (but not intolerably) to your disadvantage.

Never use public transport without a valid ticket; the inspectors are rigorous. Like any tourist destination, Prague is plagued with pickpockets. Be particularly wary on the metro.

Most things are priced in Euro there also. I would recommend changing a small amount at first, get a feel for the prices there and work out how much you will be spending. Then hit up an ATM and as advised earlier (watch your back that the ATMs) and get what you need.

prices are similar to Dublin, if you scout you can find cheaper options away from the touristy spots.

    Enjoy your trip

As above, just avoid paying anyone in Euro. Hotels are notorious for demanding payment in Euro.
