    Hey guys

Just wondering if any of you have had this problem with dell 1720.
When i switch the laptop on its starts to boot up but then i get black sceen with just the cursor showing. I have tried system repair and nothing i cant even start it in safe mode. Its getting near time to bring out the hammer:mad:

So hoping one of you have had the same problem and know how to fix it.

    Thanks in advance

Have you tried reinstalling windows, sounds like it's an OS related problem, not hardware. do you have windows reinstall cds? Unfortunately a reinstall of windows would result in loss of all data.
Actually, have you tried booting in safe mode?

One of my friends had something similar on Inspiron 1501. In his case the HDD was the problem and it was fixed under warranty.
Use hiren's boot CD or Ultimate boot CD to run HDD diagnosis.
In Inspiron 1501 you can access diagnostic software by turning the machine ON wile holding the Fn key, but I'm not sure if this is the same for 1720
