    Hi,

I've just signed up for beginners keyboard / piano lessons.

    ...am I mad?
Is this an instrument that needs to be learnt from an early age...or will I be able to play it ok-ish after the 12 weeks course...? :)

You're never too old to learn. Just be sure that you have a keyboard or piano at home that you can practice on - there is little point in just going to 12 lessons. Like all instruments, you need to
    Practice, practice, practice*

    *further practice may be required.

    Hey guys,

I was just going to post a similar thread myself. I am going to get keyboard lessons too.

I want to buy an electric piano and I want it to have weighted keys. I want to invest in this and not have to buy another one down the line, having outgrown the initial one. My budget is in or around 1k.

Any recommendations on models etc? I have no clue myself. Thanks in advance for any help.

Can anyone recommend a keyboard suitable for an absolute beginner...? :)

I dont really want to shell out too much money at the beginning...incase I do end up giving up! :(

Would €200 get me a keyboard....or is that crazy talk? :)
I know the place I am going to do the lessons sells some...but I dont want to be talked into paying above the odds, so if anyone can recommend one that is good value for its price that would be super :)

Soooo excited about learning the piano / keyboard :)

Get weighted keys if you can afford them. But if not be sure you get a keyboard that has velocity sensitive keys - anything less is a waste of time as you won't be able to play louder by playing harder.

Have a browse through the Thomann website - they should have something to suit.

    hi,
you may want to give a Midi Controller some thought. these boxes send and receive midi data to and from your virtual instruments on your pc which then produce the sounds you want (note: the controller does not make any sounds) they are cheap priced approx. 150>
the beauty of these boxes is that you can get a controller that only has 25 keys. great for learning as there is less keys to confuse matters. you can move up or down through the octaves (range is greater than a piano)and within no time your finger movements will improve greatly.
another note is they can be great space savers. the 25 key can fit on a keyboard shelf.
    the soundbanks are unlimited.
    check out http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=products.family&ID=USBkeyboardcontrollers

PS: ANY AXIOM 25 USERS OUT THERE!

Hey, I already have an Oxygen 8 mini midi controller. But as I will be getting lessons, i'l need a proper keyboard.

I want to invest in one now so I don't have to buy again later.

Any good models around 1k with weighted keys?

    Thanks.:)
