Is this course due to open soon ?
They have a nice website: http://www.bunclodygfc.ie/the_course.php

Pretty sure it's open as they were doing big advertising on sky during the Ryder Cup. Looked nice on tv...

That elevator sounds like a recipe for disaster to me!

thinking about that when i was watching the ryder cup.

most have spent a fortune on advertising it

The pictures in the gallery section look spectacular... It's a Jeff Howes design. He designed my home course and I must confess to being a fan... looking forward to playing it sometime. On the property part of the site it says the course will open in spring 2009?

Hmmm... i can't remember much about the ad on tv but maybe it was advertising the houses and the lifestyle. Hopefully it does well... similar developments seem to be struggling... i notice that the new John Daly one in Blarney has been put up for sale already. Heard rumours about Killeen Castle struggling with the property side of things too. No surprise i suppose when you consider these places would have been designed/planned during the boom.

anyone know how much the membership costs

  • Subscribers Posts: 4,419 ✭✭✭PhilipMarlowe

Heard tonight that it's in the region of 7,000 for a share and 1,000 sub... green fees of 70. You'd need to check this out because it's not first hand info.

The place looks very bare to me tbh..Probably the kind of course you think would be good but is dissapointing..Like Faithlegg

I would just like to say that the club is not open for non members until March 2009. The course is in great shape now and is not yet ready and will blow the minds of a lot of people who haven't seen the course or clubhouse. This club will be in at the highest end of golf clubs in Ireland and maybe further, incase you didn't know I am a member and all I can say is Wow!!!

How did the open days go? Was advertised for last weekend I think?
I'm looking forward to playing there next year anyway, would have liked to go down last weekend but couldn't make it.

The open day went well, there was about 1,500 people in the course/club over the two days and included people either interested in joining or just having a nose. The new improvements to the clubhouse are really nice and the changing rooms in particular are just cool, they have included a steam room and a sauna in the changing rooms:eek:.
The lift is a nice touch with the glass front, gives a good view, the driving range and short game academy are just ready for use by the look of it so all looks really good. To me and i'm trying not to be biased but this is K club standard and in some ways above ... like having the ability to order a burger chips or sandwich etc and a beverage when you come off the 8th green as you head for the 9th tee, there is a phone and a menu to order your food and when you get to the 10th tee its there waiting for you!!!!!!!
Green fees are 70 mid week and 90-100 euro at weekends.

Layout looks good with the water in play over the closing holes.

Seen the ad's during the Ryder cup. What hole is the lift been used, par 3 I presume? Quirky addition to a golf course. Anyone seen the pictures of the course in South Africa which requires a helicopter ride to a tee box 1,400 feet above the green? Course's will do anything to stand out from the crowd.

I reckon they will have to drop the €70 price though, as it prices the average golfer out ! ie. I know alot of people who would (might) pay €50 but not €70 for a round !

The lift brings you up from the 17th green to the 18th teebox, it would be very stupid to hit balls down to a green 50 meters below you duh!! The website is

    www.bunclodygfc.ie

If anyone is interested that is!

Think Greebo was referring to the course in South Africa, not Bunclody.

It is going to be good, challenging but fair.

Know a few involved in it have have been down a good few times during the development over the last yr. Every time I go down it just gets better!

There is going to be a tough finish, from 15 on, your down around the river and there wont be much room for error!

Really wanted to join but couldnt justify having 2 memberships, esp now with the current economic climate, and a paycut, also I didnt want to give up the other one for different reasons,

As far as i know, the range is back open in the evenings(using the covered bays only) and Ian and Gary are back doing lessons

But will defo get to play it a bit as its only 25 mins away and am really looking forward to it.

Haven't played Glashedy Links, in Ballyliffen then? Not 50 metres, but there's a par 3 (7th or 8th I think) which has a considerable drop down
