Ipod Touch Battery

I received the new touch in the post on Friday. It's too early to say for sure yet, but I think the battery life is way below what is advertised by Apple. Anyone else found this?

Is wifi a big drain? If so, how long should I expect to be able to use safari for on a fully charged battery?

Finally, if I turn wifi off, I can't get it to work again without rebooting the ipod. Any way around this?

Wifi use will dramatically drain the Touch - I get over 5 hours of video out of a full charge; only ~3 hours of wifi use.

Haven't encountered your second issue however.

The battery will last longer if you power it off completely in between use. When it's in just stand by it's still on.

I keep hearing conflicting reports on that. A lot of people say not to power it off at all. That the power up process drains the battery more than leaving it in standby. Its hard to get a straight answer on it.

However in answer to one of the OP's questions, you should be able to turn Wifi on again without having to reboot. What happens when you go into settings to turn it on?

It all looks fine in settings. It finds and connects to the network, but none of the online apps (safari, itunes, weather, etc.) work - they all issue the same message about not being connected to a network.

Just resolved the issue. 'ask to join networks' has to be turned on.
