In Mondays Rte news there was a Garda Command Unit or Control Unit or something along the lines of that. The incredible thing was that the van looked like a Mercedes Sprinter. IS THE END NIGH or do I need to go to Specsavers?

Check www.rte.ie and go to the crime and courts section.[news]
There are 3 pics in the 'Pender search renewed' story.
The van on the left is the Garda Dog Unit, the van on the right is the one in question.
It is virtually impossible to see (make it out)but there is a van there, if anyone can find the original report that was aired , you will be able to see the van that I am talking about ,which is shown In numerous shots.

Why's it incredible? If it's the one I think it is, it was in use at one of the big music festivals thisyear.

They have a few of them, one is based on an Iveco truck and is MASSIVE! The others are large van type vans very similar to the ones used by the HSE. (Nearly identical to Portlaoise HSE's van) Wilker built them!

Also say during the week, they have new prisior transport vans, similar to that of the prision service. The ones with cells built in.

Was on the news reversing into the bridewell carpark. So expect to see it replacing transits booting up and down the nass rd escorted by the army.

That new truck that was backing into the bridewell is known as the "city van", its for brining prisoners to and from the prison section in the bridewell to cloverhill prison etc and is used everyday of the week. saves prison service having to collect/bring those prisoners to court, i believe it can hold up to 12 prisoners in individual cells, i don't think this will be used for prisoners escorts to and from portlaoise etc as it is too big as compared to smaller transit (faster, easier to move though traffic etc), also its very rare that 12 political prisoners or the likes will be going to court together. as the gardai also have only one of these trucks it would be impossible to have "dummy escorts" when high profile prisoners are going to and from court, where as by using the transit with blacked out windows several dummy escorts can be done as all vans are identical. i would love if these vans were invested in by the job as they are armoured, members separated from prisoner, all prisoners segregated - all of this would would reduce assaults on gardai by prisoners etc.
