I'd say you could pick up some very tidy cars for 8K. Fiat coupe springs to mind.

its for my brother age 26 full license and 5 years no claims, really like the corolla t sport but a bit over priced for him, not into civics also likes celicas new shape and the st170, some nice cars on the replys tho

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 307 ✭✭victor1

if u looking at celicas, would suggest the vvtL 190bhp vs the vvti 140bhp, u'd really notice it - yep defo think newer model looks better, but a lot of people prefer the older model, older comes in 2L, dont think newer one does?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 310 ✭✭Cerberus

Given your budget, and I have to assume you have a small budget to maintain this car as well, I think your best bet would be a jap spec DC2 Integra Type-R.
As quick as makes no difference as an evo, excellent handling, economical, and you can bang them off 9000 all day long and they won't even ask for a drop of oil.
If it's an actual sports car you're looking for, as opposed to something "sporty looking" then you won't get anything faster, more reliable and more enjoyable to drive in this price range.

Have a turbo version - 220bhp is sooo much fun :) Never had a bit of trouble with it either. Servicing is reasonable too.

Just watch the insurance though, the turbos are classed as "performance cars" and come with a hefty premium.

Go for an FTO, I had this one knocked down to nearly 6k until I found myself A pristine Version R FTO.

The GP is no slouch either at 180bhp but I really wanted a mivec and so didnt take it.

Very clean car never the less

I'd have to agree, I've had both and there's a massive difference. Get a UK car though, more extras and generally better looked after!

    Here you go
    2001 http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/670124.htm
best colour IMO - very dark midnight blue, looks black till the sun hits it, it's the colour I had and the same spec too... s/roof, a/con, climate control, leather seats, cd/radio, alarm, immobiliser
    Offer them £5,500

    or here's a 2002 http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/698804.htm
Also a nice colour, my Celica 140 was the same colour!

Another 2001, same colour, very cheap

I don't know how else to describe that beemer but as 'gay'. It has 'M3 leather'. Whoa.

I'd rather have an M3 ENGINE.

I think it would be hard to find an un-abused bmw for that kind of money.

The 328 isn't a bad compromise, and far from "gay".

Have a look at the poor Euro NCAP ratings for the E36 and then you might want to retract you statement about "Jap tin buckets".

What defines a "sports car"? Are Toyota Celicas and Honda Civics sports cars? That Nissan 200 SX S14A Turbo looks like a saloon car, the Civics are surely hatchbacks.... educate me here please!!

If someone was going to spend that amount of wedge on a BMW, and consider paying the road tax on a 2.8, then surely they'd be better off to go a couple of years older and get a real deal M3?;)

Mate what are you talking about??? Have you any idea how much those vaders go for??? (that's what the seats are referred to as) €1000 +

You couldn't really buy an E36 without them - it makes them.

    PM

this looks good 2.0, 1 owner and low miles (11750). There never was an ST version so I can only assume it is the SE version with leather interior, auto lights fully amped 8 speaker JBL stereo set up etc. I have a diesel version of this car and it is fine. Its advertised over the 8K you stated but you can be sure hard bargaining and cash these days will move that off the forecourt and into your brothers drive for alot closer to 8K than the asking price.

I got a metallic silver '95 2.5L in June with 70K on it, it has air-con, dvd player, 17" alloys and leather seats for €1,900;)

civics are for retards - Very simple to fix but 1 nut Generally holds on 3 parts, the Vtec is well... Over rated, poor handling, heavy undertseer over 60 mph, its a civic...

200sx: most undesirable of the range... nice car but a S13 ( s180/240sx ) or a S15 would be a much much better purchase.... hence why the 200sx are so cheap...

the celica would be a safe bet but you grow out of jap cars oce you get your first years exp on the road....

Have a look at a 306 GTI-6, you'd get a mint one well under your budget. They handle like a dream, drive very well and have a nice 2.0 16V 167bhp engine. Sporty hot hatch!

Good call. I'd nearly forgotten about the GTI-6. Used to have a real soft spot for them.

I'd definately second the FTO that was mentioned earlier . They are a proper sports car and very few of them around which is a plus.
