Oil burner Vs Gas Burner

Hi all,

I have an oil burner in my house that needs replacing without going into too many details its fcuked. Its fairly old and inefficient.

Gas is available but not piped into the house.

My question is - are modern oil burners as efficient as gas ones? The pipes etc are all in place for the oil fired system so it would only be a case of changing the burner.

Installing a gas burner would be more expensive as it would involve starting from scratch.

So if it was up to you which option would you go for?

I also need to get rid of a really old (20+ years) oil boiler and am looking at the options
I have gas and an oil tank but i have a few questions
Is there such a thing as a dual gas and oil condensing boiler?

How much would you expect to pay to replace an exisitng boiler and replace it with a condensing boiler for a house of 1800 sq ft?

Any recommendations on the best installer supplier?

Depends on what else you want to do . Good opportunity to add trv's to rads ( €80 each ) , to add pump and new cylinder ( €1200-2400 depending on spec ) . Then maybe you cold water tank will need to be repalced to cope with new pump DHW demand - another €750 - 1k . Boiler alone - maybe €2000-2500 for A rated condensing . Could run to €6k +
