So I, like most of yous I'm sure, except Peleus, got a letter with all my TCD post today from the BOI saying how if I set up an account with them you get a free European flight, free goody bag and be entered into a draw. I, unfortunately, already have a BOI account and recently upgraded it to 3rd level.

Any chance I could still get this goody bag? :o

Maybe if I offered to change branch to the one beside Trinity? (Which I'll probably do eventually anyway, since my current one isn't open weekends and I'll be spending my weekdays at Trinity).

    Anyone know?

    actually... i got mine :D

Do you mean you already have a Trinity Bank of Ireland account? I'm pretty sure you can open two accounts in the same branch. If not, just close your account the day before and reopen it on the day.

All these offers from banks are great. a few years ago Ulster Bank gave you €50 for opening an account. It may have been €50 credit tho.

No I mean I have a BOI account, but it's not a Trinity one....it's just an account with a different branch. Would they not know that I already have an account when I give my details?

I really want that goody bag!!!!!

    I havent got mine yet!!

And lads, in fairness, the goody bag is probably a note book and bank of ireland pen...i doubt its anything to be excited about!!

edit:though i did get a BOI letter telling me to stop overdrawing my account...oops:o

sure i have a 3rd level BOI account but i'm still going to open a second one in Trinity. I'm nearly 100% sure you can have two accounts under the same name with the same bank as long as their in different branches.

ye i want the bag too.

What documentation do you need to open all these accounts with the goodies, and do they discriminate between Irish and non Irish ?

You got a voucher for the student card right? That will save you twelve euros. You have to pay three euro for the photograph though.

Ordinary trinity staff cards are free when you register (remember to wear a smile for the photo).
However your TCD student card will only get you travel discounts with Bus Eireann. To get the full student discount on all of your travel needs (Dublin Bus, Iarnrod Eireann/Dart, Luas) you'll need a Student Travel Card, which cost ~€13. The voucher you got from AIB can be used to pay for this card instead.

FYI, Trinity is one of few places that issue Student Travel Cards internally (in the SU), so as well as a stand in the Arts Block, cards can also be gotten from the SU office in Front Square.

In addition to this, do not bring your own passport photos. They take your photo there and then, so don't waste €6 or whatever on some machine in Stephen's Green (unless you're particularly vain).

I think you can supply your own photos if you want, they just chargen you €3 to take a photo if you don't.

Well, I'm not sure about the Travelcard setup that's going in the Arts Block, but if you get one down in the SU front office they won't accept your photos. The travelcard printer needs a digital photo taken then and there by the system.

It's a student travel card not a student card.

Yeah.. it's a bit of a swizz that you have to buy a card for them to accept you as a student. I mean, it has to be the right student card too. I have a USIT card that's accepted by Bus Eireann but not Irish Rail. Nor Zavvi/Virgin for that matter

Im not sure to be honest I rang up to register for phone and internet banking and the guy said did you get your voucher yet and I said I didnt get it yet and he said that I should have got it by now...

Can someone tell me what it looks like in case I did get it and its lying in an envelope in my room somewhere.

Ok having done the Bank of Ireland job at UCD from expierence:

    (i) yes if you have upgraded you account you can get a bag. Go to the student branch and ask for one.
(ii) open as accounts in as many banks as you feel like, get all the free stuff you can. it will never be as easy to open an account again.
(iii) there are serious strings attached to some offers. For instance the Ulster Bank 100euro is anything but free. THe bank account must be your active current account. The flights to Europe with BOI are free, but to get them to the states you have to have multiple transactions and online transactions. The AIB money also needs transactions.

I upgraded my AIB account to a student account two months ago. D'you think I'd still avail of the €50 free or would I have to have opened it during college?

Go ask them. Seriously as far as they're concerned an pgraded third level account is a good as a new one. An upgraded account is actually probably better as it indicates a definite desire to use the account and not just a punter after the free stuff.
