I am having a problem with my own laptop at the moment. Its quite strange.

When accessing excel files on a file server and on my hard drive (by double clicking on the file) excel sometimes hangs for about 10 seconds. It happens for a range of spreadsheet sizes.

However when i open excel, and point to the file that I want to open, it opens fine.

Any suggestions on what could possible be the cause?

Off the top of my head, it sounds like internal files within Office have become (for a yet unknown reason) faulty.
Re-installing Office or sececting the repair selection in that utility, should help with the problem.

If its at work and on the main server, bring it to the attention of whomever is the IT manager.
I have kown this to happen before. While not immediately critical, it is darn annoying and frustrating.

i dont believe it to be the fault of the server as it happens on excel files on my hard drive also. Ill give "detect and repair" a go.

    Anyone else got any suggestions?

It won't have anything to do with the server. Its the Office application (which is installed ON the server) which is faulty. Separate thing altogether from the main server.
This is an Office fault. Repair or re-install are your options.
