    Is German and indeed Russian, Italian, Spanish and Polish Depts. poor aswell?

    Nah, the French department is infamously and uniquely bad. I don't even do French and I've heard the stories.

    right so i shouldn't fear doing a language based degree in trinity then?

    No idea, maybe you should! But I wouldn't tar all the departments with the same brush.

    All the different languages are managed seperately. People doing Spanish will have a completely different experience to anyone who does German or Russian etc.

    I know the Irish department fairly well and apart from being fairly laid back and perhaps a little unorganised, the standard of teaching is very very high and I've rarely heard complaints on course content.

    It will also depend what you make of it, the lecturers and staff can only do so much, it really falls upon the student themselves to study in their own time and put efforts into assignments and the like.

    Shouldnt that be "are the ....poor as well"....? As we are on the language line :D

    I think I may switch to beginner russian because of that thread. But this is a big disadvantage, i was looking forward having fluent at french (after however many years of high quality french teaching0 :(

    German department is pretty cool, not at all like the stories I hear about the French department.
