Had a surgical removal of a pigmented mark on my lower lip 2 weeks ago by an eminent specialist, just back for post op check today and no sign of a biopsy result back yet from histology. will have to wait at least another week till my next appointment to find out. Just wondering is this normal or is it cause for concern that it's taking so long? how long does it usually take for a biopsy? It was done in a large hospital in Limerick. Thanks in advance

While labs aim to have everything processed as fast a possible, backlogs can develop because of staffing and unexpected influx of samples. Higher priority samples will be viewed first and everything else then after. I doubt there is cause for concern, besides, i'm not sure of the routine processing time for biopsies in limerick. The biopsies itself will be prepared pretty rapidly in teh lab, and the slides then will wait for a pathologist to look at it and give his/her opinion.
