    Hello,
Attention all photography students! Looking for quick cash and a way to boost your portfolio?

We require a talented photography student to shoot close up shots of our products in daylight settings. We have around 100 products which need to be shot in identical settings. Once the environment is setup, it should be easy!

We expect this job to last no more than one days work. We can pay the candidate in cash and/or our products!

PM me if you are interested.
    All the best,
    dela.

    Hello,

In short you want good work for free.

I'd like to see some actual details of the job, location, length of time, will the photographer keeps the rights to the images, any kind of recompense you can offer them and what they will be shooting and under what circumstances.

Otherwise i'm afraid i'll need to shut this thread down.

In short, we want good work for competitive compensation.

Location: 3 options here: 1. Rathfarnham 2. Greystones 3. Candidates house more or less anytime within the next 2 weeks that suits.

Rights: By accepting the job, the candidate will hand over all rights to all images that are used in any way by the company that are shot on the day.

    dela.

Nonono. Photographers retain the rights to the photo and license them to the client under certain conditions. Anyone who takes this 'job' should protect themselves by getting these lads to sign a contract.

Whilst i know that is the way it should be done i felt it was a pertinent question to ask given the whole Festival of World Cultures thing.:)

Not at all comfortable with giving up rights. Its a pity - would have done it otherwise.

@OP - out of curiosity - why do you want the rights?

Sinead, I've had a chat with him about the rights issue and explained he needs sort it out that they are using the photos just for stock.

As far as i am aware they are happy with that so maybe drop them a PM.

I'm not just directing this question at Sineadw, but why are people so sensitive about rights in a straightforward commercial shoot like this?

Surely the price negotiated would reflect the conditions under which you take on the job?

Add to that the photos are probably commercially useless elsewhere anyway.

BUT, the issue I think is that such shoots are usually priced on usage i.e. Country distribution, media etc. Where you give away the rights completely for say usage on a website (normally cheaper) they can easily be used elsewhere later for other potentially more expensive uses.

Fair enough but that just brings us back to the price being negotiated to suit the terms.

Is it not just a gamble, less jam today in return for the possibility of more in the future?

    Bang on.

And normally buying the rights is a very expensive business. This company appear to want the rights and not pay anything near the normal rates. In fairness it could well be ignorance on their part.

    Well if you give away the rights it's a case of;

less jam today in return for NO jam in the future.

To me it is pretty clear that they have asked for help from students
in this case to avoid all of the bureaucracy (Plenty of this seen above)
and in several other threads also.

Rights to photos are very important if they have potential future value,
ie in the case of a wedding, sporting event, concert, etc....

These photo's will have very little use to anyone other than the OP who
is supplying the specific materials only for their needs.

I have been in contact with the op and I am very interested in the
shoot only I lack the lens necessary for the correct shots.

I am aware of the rights and price and from a "student's" perspective I
think the price is quite fair. I'm sure a pro could do a much better job
than me but they are not asking for a pro here. Remember this.
