Buying an electric trolley

Considering getting one of these over the winter months. If i was to get one i'd most likely go for a Powakaddy. Posisbly might get a Hill Billy as i believe they were recently bought over by Powakaddy and are now essentially the same. I wouldn't go for any of the other models out there.

Had a quick look around they seem to be very expensive over here compared to the UK. Trouble is, none of the UK online shops will send them outside the UK due to the warranty on the trolley.

Question is really, any recommendations on where i should go for the best deal?

I could pick one up when i'm back in the UK next with the car, but figure that if anything goes wrong with it then i'd need to take it back over again to be sent for repair. Anybody any advice?

The golf glider is by far the best on the market....a little expensive but will go forever.

A friend of mine got one in dunnes @ 149 or something, does the job.(not a golf gilder)

another mate got the trolly and bag in golf works (hill hopper) i think for 349euro.

best investment you'll ever make, loads of energy at the end of a round.

Have to agree about the Powakaddy Graeme. They are the longest around and the most reliable in my opinion. They have made all the mistakes...had a pulsar machine about 7/8 years ago and it was a flop so they know what works and what doesnt. Good after sales service as they have service agents all over the country. A few different models so check out their website and choose a model and then ring around for the best price I suppose. Unless you want all the snazzy features of distance measurement or brakes the standard freeway should suffice I reckon. Golf Glider is Irish made I think but just a workhorse really...no real smart design to it like the Powakaddy. Youre right about Hillbilly but just because Powakaddy bought them doesny mean the machines will be as reliable as they have kept the Hillbilly designs.

My local pro told me that the new Hill Billy is the best on the market at the moment.

Thnks for the replies lads... yeah, my old man has just bought a hillbilly and is raving about it. He's only had it a few weeks though so might see what he's saying about it in a few months time.

The other question i have is about the battery. I play a good few 36-holers so not sure if i should consider a bigger battery or even a spare one... or perhaps not worth it for 4-5 games a season?

Have never heard of a battery going for 36..........best bet either buy a spare one or if you could charge it between each 18 for a hour it may get you round.

Some models come with a 36 hole battery... bit more expensive though.

Graeme, I have a powerkaddy with the 18 hole battery, on 5/6 occasions last year i've gotten 36 holes out of the battery. In fact the battery has never died on me and i've had it since the start of last year. More recently though, if i'm playing 36 holes i'll take the father's 36 hole battery.

I think course conditions and how hilly or flat it is will determine if you will get the full 36 out of the 18 hole battery. you'd defo get 27 holes.

At the time i spent the best part of 500 euro on it. My advice would be to go get the powerkaddy and the 18 hole battery but maybe 6-9 months down the road pick up the 36 hole one as i'm sure the longevity of the batteries will decrease...

A mate of mine in UK bought the GoKart trolley - it is light looks well and while not the cheapest it seems to be making huge inroads across the water.

They only sell from website but will ship to Ireland for £40 I think! Might be worth an option as he is raving about it!

www.gokart.co.uk if you want to have a look.

Do Nevada Bob's in Belfast do it? If so then it's not that far from Dublin (assuming you are near Dublin)......or I can stick it in the car and bring it down.

Cheers for the offer Stockdam... i'll maybe look into that. I'm heading up to Belfast next month so will do it then.

I just got one and went for the GolfGlider over the powakaddy. I've heard first hand about issues getting problems fixed with the powakaddys whereas they make the golf glider 5 minutes down the road from me (Churchtown in Dublin).

Bought mine in McGuirks in Howth. Got the one that folds down very easily and quickly.

I haven't yet. I've been meaning to go look at them the past few weekends but haven't got around to it... this weekend hopefully!

    I'll report back then.

Anyone ever considered getting one of the many remote control trolleys out there? I always thought it was a great idea, particularly in our weather as you can keep your hands in your pockets.
