    Is it standard for a future landlord to ring your place of work for a reference

    Yep. Don't worry, HR won't give out much info.

    All they want to know are you permanant and full-time if that's what applies to you.

    Yeah, it wouldn't bother me.

    What really is the difference between him seeing a company letter stating you earn €X versus speaking to HR? As long as HR are happy to do it, I wouldn't care really...

    my previous landlord asked for 3 written refernces, 1 being work 2 being from a previous landlord, and then 3 was a personal reference from a friend.

    I think HR gave me a letter to say that I was in full time emplyment and that my salary would cover rent on the Dublin area.

    Nothing to worry about, just maybe mention it to HR so they know the call is coming.
