[Req] Can I use Irish Sky Card in England?

    Hi All,

I'm moving from Ireland to England and would like to keep my access to domestic Irish television. (I have Sky box in Ireland and intend to get a Sky box in England). I've heard that Ireland and England are both under the same satellite zone and so it's possible to use an Irish card in England (and vice versa). Can I simply swap cards between the Sky boxes to achieve this? Are there any implications to consider in doing this?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks In Advance for all responses.

    Yes, you can do this.

You need to continue paying your Sky subscription through an Irish address (perhaps through family or friends). Easiest to just continue to pay by direct debit from an Irish bank and get the bills delivered to family or friends.

You can't get Sky multi-room as this requires connecting to a telephone line.

You won't be able to access a few channels available on the Sky UK EPG, mostly just Channel 5 and its variants, no big deal really.

You'll also have to get the card 'paired' to the new sky box. Get friends or family at home in Ireland to do this. Send them details of the box (serial No, version No, epg version etc) I'm using an ROI sub in the 'North" of Ireland at the moment.

Or you could just swap the physical boxes with the cards in them. Though I suppose posting boxes would be more expensive than posting a smartcard.

If by 'new' irish card, you mean one of the new white cards, then they'll work just the same as the old blue one's.

As in posts above you'll have to get the card paired to the box you intend to use. Get someone in Ireland to ring Sky to get the card activated.

They will need the card No, details of the box itself, and the Sky agent may ask them for an irish address where the card wil be used.

They may also ask for the name of the credit card holder / account holder who is paying the bill as a 'security question'.

Good luck, hope you get you sub up and running soon.

You can physically do it. But it is against the Sky terms and conditions and so you can't discuss it here.
