    Hi,
I have a person coming in laying a patio for me,
Is it better to lay the patio on fresh concrete so that it wont dip etc or is it better to lay it on sand, There will be a 3 inch hardcore base, nothing running beneath it so it will never be taken up again hopefully,
    Any info appreciated.
    Cheers

Ideally the hardcore should be 4" and compacted. Best to lay slabs on a wet mortar bed (sand/cement) but other alternatives are possible but not as good finish. Type of patio stone must also be considered when deciding which finish is best.

Joints must also be sealed otherwis ethere is a risk of weeds developing in for example sanded joints.
