    Hi Guys,

The old man and meself have been going to Bohermeen Bog near Navan over the summer looking for rabbits or just for a bit of target practice. The only problem is that it takes over an hour to get there (we are based in North County Dublin, Swords/Malahide/Donobate area)

I'm just wondering is there a "suitable venue" nearer to home? with all the coastal areas and fields there had to be some place nearer than Bohermeen

    Any suggestions?

    Happy Hunting

Wouldn't have thought you'd get too many rabbits on Bohermeen Bog!
I'd imagine there's far more about in your own neck of the woods but it's probably all gun club land. Have you joined your local club? You should see the signs stuck up around the trees and gates into fields.

i live in that area and i hate to say you fat chance of getting into a club out there, unless you know someone involved. best bet is to get insurance and knock into farmers yourself and ask for permission to shoot rabbits.

There is piles of land. You would be surpirsed. I shoot a bit around here. Google earth Fingal and you will see all the green. I shoot with permission but I am also in a club further out. Lusk are actively seeking members (there is some sort of politics involved I think as they split from Lusk/Rush or something but if you just want to get on with shooting rabbits it will do). Just as a taster, some night drive into Bewleys off the N32 and shine your headlights around. Ive often seen up to 100 rabbits in there, but to near to the buildings. What clubs do cover Swords and Donabate????? Kinseally have Malahide, Portmarnock and into Coolock.

Get to know them then most of those lads shoot in Courtlough quite a number of the local Farmers are members of Rush and Lusk not the other one.

Ring or email the NARGC and tell them your situation and they'll help you out. www.nargc.ie / nargc@iol.ie ... That said, even with the contacts it's often hard to get into a club though.

If you going to knock into farmers houses and ask permission it'd help if you had insurance first either with nargc or countryside alliance or something.

i do know members and farmers out there. i have my own permission. i dont want to or never have tried to join any of the clubs around.im sure if i wanted to get in i could, but i dont.im just advising op on the situation. firends of mine have tried(and failed) and i also got an application form for a chap off this forum for the break away club. and despite the fact that they were advertising for members and despite the fact that he was someone i think any club would want he still didnt get in,wasnt in the click.
its very hard for people with no contacts to be entertained by clubs. by the sound of the op he didnt sound like he was in the know.

All of the clubs in North county Dublin require you to be a resident within the townland or boundary of that club. After that some clubs (i don't know the rules of them all) require that you are proposed and seconded for membership. This means you would need at least one person to vouch for you at the AGM or whenever memberships are reviewed.

Swords / malahide gun clubs are Kinsealy (malahide) and Balheary, these would be your best bet if your living in that area. Bear the above in mind, if your looking to join the club you may need to know someone on the inside
