I am looking for some ammo for the .22lr to control some mink in a nearby river, The ammo needs to be frangible as the the river is rocky and there are houses nearby.
Now I don't really want to use shotshells as I don't think they will be useful at the ranges I could possibly engage the mink at, and they most likely won't carry enough energy for a mink even in the 15ft lethal range.
I have seen on the CCI site where there is a new type of SHP ammo which is designed to break into 3 sections on impact and is subsonic, which sounds ideal.
Has anyone seen this stuff in Ireland? or know where I can get some?

Don't want to spoil the fun but it says .22 Win Mag and not .22lr .
I reckon a good cartridge through a thight choke might do the trick as well. If the river has a good bit of trees and shrubs on the bank the noise shouldn't travel to far either.

    From the link posted:
CCI's unique Segmented Hollow-Point (SHP) bullet is now available in 22 Win Mag and a 22 Long Rifle subsonic load
Wouldn't recommend it for the situation you describe though.

Thanks lads for the help, I have decided to call in the local rep from the fishery board to help trap the blighter.
I have a bodygrip trap and he has some other kind of mink trap but is keen to try and end the presence.
I just don't have the time to sit on the riverbank for hours waiting.
It is an attractive prospect but I have other priorities, and traps can wait for 24hrs a day in all weathers!
BTW, SHP used to be called quickshok, and is basically a bullet cut into 3 and swaged back together.

Its a solution to the mink problem but where's the sport??? Have a friend who shoots in the Cork area and he would be more than willing to sit in waiting for a couple of hours in all weathers.
