    Cheers

f8 should bring you to a screen with a "Repair your computer" option. Select that option and go from there.

thats what i taught. it's not there.....

D: is not available in My Computer when booted. I presume that the partition i'm looking for.

Some samsungs I've seen come with a recovery cd (also came with a windows cd which is handy). Do you have one of those.

It's not mine and no CD's are available. Maybe it did come with CD's. The D partition is hidden so i presume it's a recovery partition.

Download ultimate boot cd. Burn that to a disk and then boot from it. Go through the menu until you find smart boot manager. Select this tool. This will show you all the partitions on the drive. This bit is really trial and error, you have to boot from each partition until you get the one that works.

Alright a quick update, Start windows and there is a program called Samsung Disk Doctor. This can be used to restore your system back to factory state.

It didn't work for me as the copy of windows is not genuine. Someone seems to have installed Vista Business on the machine. It was shipped with Home basic. The install of Vista business has wiped the recovery partition. The partition is still there but it seems to have nothing on it. That why F8 dose not give the option to repair windows. Unless the customer has the orignal CD there is nothing i can do.

Topic closed from the point of view trying to get around a fresh install as i know that is not allowed.

What do you mean by not allowed? If you can get your hands on a vista basic disk (the product key for the home basic that came with the laptop should be on the laptop somewhere, check for a green sticker) and all the drivers for the laptop then re-install windows would be the way to go. Then just use something like norton ghost or acronis true image to make an image of the disk so you don't need to do that again.

Note: To the best of my knowledge, this should be completely safe, assuming you follow these steps exactly. But of course I cannot guarantee that my diagnosis is correct and that no harm will happen. To be safe, I recommend you make backups before making changes like this to your disk.

    1) Use Start Menu - Run and enter DISKPART. Click Yes when User Account Control prompts you (because DISKPART can make changes to your disk).

    2) Enter LIST VOLUME to show all your volumes (mounted partitions). Notice which one is your Recovery (probably SAMSUNG_REC). On mine it's Volume 4 but it could be different on yours. Also notice the drive letter.

    3) Enter SELECT VOLUME 4 (assuming 4 was the number of your Recovery).

    4) Enter DETAIL PARTITION just to verify that you have the correct volume selected. It should have an asterisk in front.

    5) Enter REMOVE LETTER=R (assuming the drive letter is R).

If you want to recover the data in your Android phone, just go to Android Recovery.

F4 on start up will bring you into the Samsung recovery where you can run a basic or full recovery.

had the same issue when hidden partition showing under win7 and cannot hide through disk management. with diskpart it also appears after reboot
run cmd as administrator and type

mountvol R:\ /D (where R is yours recovery partition)

it will remove R letter and will not appears after reboot
