    Hi All,

Last week I was offered a new job. The compay is offering me the salary I asked for but I think I should have asked for 2-3k more. How could I go about asking for more money before I start?

    Any advice appreciated.

the offered what you asked? Can't see how you can go back asking for more. How would you feel if they changed their minds and offered you 2-3k less?

well if you really want ... I'd say ... tell them you've an offer for 3k more from another company ... you do prefer their company but ... "blah blah blah"

Of course be prepared for them to say ... sorry we'll look elsewhere.

Dont ask, it will come across as petty as you have been offered the money you already asked for. I wont say it is "only" 2-3k but in the longterm you will more than make this up if you are good at your job, the company will see that and reward you or else you can just move jobs having gained a whole pile of new experience.

I was in the same boat back in 2003 when I though I should have asked for a bit more, and I assume you are fairly early in your career as I was at the time, so this 2-3k wont be missed down the road. Best to establish a good working relationship with your company first.

Have you compared your salary to the market rates? I am assuming that you are not taking on a job where you are going to be underpaid...

I have to agree with others. Dont think you can as it would not make the best impression. 3k is not going to make that much of a difference over a year. Work hard for the year & then go in & ask for that pay rise.
