Post Office job and background check

    Hi.
I am looking for temporary employment at the sorting department of An Post.
But when I was filling the application form noticed that background check for criminal offenses must be submitted. I have one silly public order offense 4 years back (student times - drunk in public place).
Do I need to state this one? If I state this one, how will it impact on my application? No chances right?
    Any advice will be appreciated.
    Regards.

    Hi Dimaer,

Sorry this isn't a response to your question but rather a question about An Post Sorting Office jobs. I'm interested in doing that in the run up to Christmas and have tried contacting An Post to find out more but have heard nothing in response. Can you shed any light on who / where I should contact to find out more please?

Ah sure who didn't rack up an offense in their student days? I know I got one (TV license :()

Yep, as said your offense is unrelated.
It shouldn't affect your application at all, best of luck :)

Now if you had a record of forging bank drafts or petty theft, you'd have no chance of getting this job and rightly so.

SM01, I just got reffered by my friend, she got an application form for me.

    Guys thanks for the replays.
    Have to choices now:
    - Do not put it in application
    - Put it in application, but give reference from officer who handleded that case.
Second one looks much better, but I am worring that they might not even consider my application with public order offense.

Take the second option and hope that the reference from the officer will negate the offence.

I know someone who didn't declare a motor tax offence on a job app for the HSE and was disqualified when it came up on the garda check.

Best of luck to you with it :)

I think them checks go back as far as 7-10 years.
Option 2 and best of luck.
