Was over in the states last week, From what I have seen, I can see huge similarities between Directv's epg and the one sky's about to roll out.

HD is widespread, looking at the directv epg, hd programming is not separated on different channels as it done here, its done program by program, a simple HD symbol beside the program name idicates whether the program is in hd or not. - A very simple approach, with broadcasters only paying for higher bandwidth when needed!

I am sick of looking at the sky epg and seeing nothing half watchable on!

No matter how much they dress it up, if the content isn't up to scratch they can forget about it!

Over the past few months I've noticed I haven't watched even an hour of "premium programming" I've been paying through the nose for!

I can't remember the last time I watched a series on sky one, or even a movie on the movie stations, I don't think I've even seen a sport I've wanted to see on sky sports!

Lately the only programming I seem to be watching on my SKY HD BOX with dolby digital 5.1 surround sound, SKY WORLD with MUSIC choice, MUTV, Setanta is Ann Doyle on the 9 o'clock news telling me the economy has gone down the pan!!!

I have an Orbit box with a cheap 25euro a month subscribtion to Orbit and I swear, I have watched more entertaining shows in the last month than I have seen on sky in the last year! I have a HBO station, 3 round the clock movie channels, a news channel that gathers all the shows together! - (NBC, CBS, ABC, BBC, ITN), and it is 100% more entertaining than the 800+channels on sky!

Its time sky, BCI, ofcom, itv, bbc, rte etc got their act together and offered a selection of decent channels to match the price their charging!

    I am so sick of switching boxes to access stations, ch4HD, ch4 blocked progs, ch5, 5US, 5Life, itv,2,3,4 and +1, more4+1 etc.

The service is aload of pants!

Orbit ? It looks like an arabic aimed system. There lineup looks awful compared to sky imo. If you dont like sky then dump it. Problem solved.

I think their lineup although smaller than sky is actually better! - they've a more condensed line-up not all mixed up with a load of cheap crap tv stations that have blown their entire budget on an epg number!

Orbit is not readily available in Ireland, I got it after I got a pain in my face looking at sky. Don't get me wrong either, problem is solved will be dumping them like a shot now!

There simply isn't enough competition to offer better alternatives here, UPC have nearly identical line-up! Buying the crap off sky isn't exactly competing with them!

    We need some new providers!

I agree with you that we need a proper alternative to Sky. Another big game player like in the US where they have Directv and Dish network. The only thing is that they will end up showing the exact stations for the most part.
