Failing a 5 credit module/Appeals?

Does anyone have any experience with appealing autumn examinations?
I have passed all my modules apart from one subject, its worth 5 credits and i only got 22%.

I missed two assestments worth 20%, so really I was marked out of 80, giving me 27.5 on the day of exam. However it says that you can be given the assestment mark added on to your exam mark if you provide valid reason as to why you missed the assestment.
Obviosuly im only looking for the 30% , purely to get through to this year and resit it next may anyway!

What difference does it make to UCC if i sit in May with my new 10 modules or sit it by itself, keeping me back a whole year for f.a.

so my question is, has anyone ever had an appeal accepted? im extremely skeptical as I feel these committees are purely giving jobs to the boys and are inclined to sway with professors.

A few people in my class successfully appealed but I think that in the majority of appeal cases it needs to be seen the the lecturer was at fault and not the student for not submitting stuff.

Of people I know who appealed, it's been for pretty serious reasons they were approved. Why did you not hand up the assignments? UCC are usually resonable if you were sick or had a death in the family etc. Depending on the module you might be able to do it next year, ie. take 65 credits, one of my friends did that when she missed a field trip.

thats exactly what i would be appealing for, to take 65 credits this year as opposed to just waiting around all year to resit 5.

last question would be, should you go see your lecturer beforehand?
im afraid of speaking to lecturers in private :/

Your completely naive to expect that to happen. It never will, end of story.

HEy everyone I don´t know how to work this or how to start threads so I was wondering if ye could help me with this?

I failed two 5 credit modules (One which I only sat once as I was ill for the summer exam I had a med cert for this which was handed in etc) this year and have been told I cannot progress to second year unless I spend the year repeating these two modules alone. As you can understand this would be a huge financial burden for my family as it would be an extra year of accomadation/commuting fees for 2 hours of lectures a week.

As I have met all other criteria to progress to second year I am wondering if you know anything about being able to carry on modules etc. as I am having difficulty finding the information I need from the college in Brookfield.

I have 50 passed credits and attained overall marks of 710/1200. However, in order to progress to second year I need to have achieved a mark of 45 in both failed modules and I only got a mark of 39 in both. However, there were also marks for continuous assessment aspects of each module and I am not sure whether or not they were counted in this.

If you know of any appeal or any way I can try to fight my case I would really appreciate your help.
