tech guys are awful

I have a Toshiba Equium, bought it on new year's eve just gone, cheap and cheerful but it suits my needs, hd failed on it 6 weeks ago, I have worked as a tech supp analyst so thought that this wuld be straightforward enough, called up tech guys, told the agent the story and he said he'd get it picked up, couldn't promise to be at home on the day in question so had it picked up from pc world where i bought it on the understanding that it would be delivered back to my house, easy so far right?

And so began 5 weeks of phone calls from me to them, they had no idea where the unit was, it was in athlone, it was in limerick, it was signed for by someone named cassidy etc etc I was laughed at, spoken down to and even hung up on once, obviously I was p o'd on the phone but never once did I lose my temper, as I said I worked that job before and know how difficult it can be

Finally got put through to cust serv, found out the unit was in pc world for 4 weeks though no one had bothered to tell me, asked for it to be delivered to my house as agreed and was told it would take ten days as the unit would have to be shipped back to uk before it could be shipped to me again

Agreed to pick it up from pc world myself and was offered 50 sterling as a "sorry" this was over ten days ago

No sign of the letter so I phoned them today, now all of a sudden it's changed to 30 sterling as "that's what's in the case notes" I told them to listen back on the call as it was def 50, (at the time of the original call I had phone on loudspeaker so my bf could listen as well, so he knows it was 50 as well) It was like talking to a brick wall, although I was assured that all calls are recorded, all of a sudden only random calls are recorded!? I have easily spent over 30 euro chasing these guys only to get abuse and now they won't even stand by their goodwill gesture, I got an address that I can write to but honestly, I don't think the letter would even be read! These guys are chancers of the highest order.

Has anyone any advice on what I should do next? Should I write the letter?

Call Toshiba directly and complain about them.

Sounds similar to the experience a guy I worked with had with them. He returned a 6-month old high end Tosh laptop that just died and it took them about 6 weeks to eventually pick it up and about the same period to return it.

Do send the letter. Remember to mention the exact store you were dealing with. The reason these things never change is because no one takes it further than the store/person on the other end of the phone. If you don't take it any further than head office will never know that people are having problems.

If they get no complaint then they think everything is fine and nothing needs to be changed, if they get a load of complaints then they know that something is going wrong somewhere. Make sure to give as much details as possible (reference numbers, names of people you were dealing with etc.), this will help them narrow the problem down and hopefully (for their sake) stop something like this happening again.
