Well how did we all enjoy our season?

Any highlights, lowlights, disasters or triumphs?

Not a bad season, all in all.

I played very little - 2 games, 1 competitive, 1 friendly, with a final challenge (definitely not friendly) to come this Saturday. I miss playing, but I think it's more the craic with my old teammates I miss, rather than the actual act of playing.

Umpiring really took over this year, as fellow boardsies will know only too well. I did my first senior games, and really enjoyed the challenge of umpiring the top players in the country. I also went to Belfast on umpiring exchange, which was a fun challenge in itself. Sadly, between weather & holidays most of August was a washout.

Highlights of the season: my first senior game, umpiring in the Irish Senior Cup, doing two cup finals. Best of the lot was the cup final in Malahide, where Pembroke & North Kildare played out a terrific match, right down to the wire. When as an ump you have to remind yourself to not let the tension get to you, you know it's a good day.

Ambitions for 2009: do more top-level games, and improve the standard of my officiating. Anyone who says they're as good as they can be is deluding themselves.

As a non-player and not an umpire yet - 2008 was the stepping stone for Irish international cricket - We have (probably) our best exports playing 20/20 soon in the Windies, We have a place in the next world cup up for grabs in UAE, and the 20/20 World Cup Next Year.........oh yeah and it's ashes time again.........Happy Days! :)
