White lines on Sky

    Hey guys,

Dont really know much about this but I have sky in my apartment, one digibox which is located in the bedroom and then the sitting room is hooked up to a skydigi eye. The main box had to be put in the bedroom because that was where the line began or something.

But in the sitting room the reception sometimes goes a bit bad with faded white lines going up the screen, its not bad but i can get annoying when something with dark colour is on.

Is it a length issue of the coax wire or something? Or is there a way you can boost a signal from the main box?

    Thanks in advance

Do you have the TV aerial from wall plate connected into the aerial in of the Sky box ? If this is the case it could be that the RF output frequency of the Sky box is being interfered with by the terrestrial reception.
Try unplugging the aerial lead from the sky box and see if the picture clears.
If it does then thats your problem.
Then try changing the out put of the sky box. Press services, 4,0,1 to get into the installer menu . Go to RF outputs and try a few differerent channel numbers from 21 to 68. 36 ids usually clear unless you have a VCR looped in.
Re tune 2nd telly to suit.
If you can't find a clear channel , try a variable attenulator on the aerial input to sky box.
If you don't really understand this, find a good independent local satellite specialist to sort it out for you. Should not cost you much for a simple job. (usually!)

Is the sitting room the only room fed from the RF out on the Sky box? I assume the telly beside the box is connected via the SCART, if so try the RF input instead and see if you're getting the same faded bar going up the screen.

Does the picture occasionally jump or distort when the bar reaches the top of the screen ?

It's possible that it's a 50Hz hum present on the RF output introduced from a distribution amp or the voltage used on the RF output of the Sky box to supply the Eye device. This would cause the bar you describe but depending on its severity it would usually make the picture jump or miss a sync when it reaches the top.

I recently had this on a distribution amp fed from a cheap power adaptor whose smoothing capacitor dried up.
