Wii ISO Bootloader

I'm not sure if anyone here has even heard about this yet , or has any interest for that matter , but someone has recently cracked the Wii coding and come up with a Wii software boot loader that allows you to play your 'backup' games using a software only options - no mod chips needed.

It was leaked onto the net without the authors permission and for my own purposes I was testing this today and i can confirm that it works on some games but not on all , and it can be slow to load games , but it defo works.

You can find videos on YouTube and other places , and its a bit of a bugger to get going , but once you get the initial stuff installed and working , its just a matter of patching your original ISO's to make yourself a backup you can use to avoid damaging the original.

Has anyone else heard of this , tried it , or has opinions ... im sure there will be lots of negative responses and a lot of PM's as well, but please keep this to the thread for now if you dont mind , thanks.

This topic is skating on very thin ice at the moment. I'll allow it for now but it seems the only reason to use this is to play illegal back ups which is against the charter unless some one can prove me wrong.

Thanks Retr0gamer - if it gets any way heated remove it at any stage - i will not post any links or reply to any PM's about how to get this working... its just information thats readily available to the masses as it is and im curious to see what people think about all of this.

Thanks to some guy who leaked an early beta, the developer has stopped working on it in anger. That means it will probably remain buggy unless someone picks up thew development. And by that time it will probably be patched by nintendo!

Yeah its still in beta and quite buggy , but more for the NTSC consoles than the PAL ones since it was designed initially with PAL in mind.
He is going to release the source code in line with the GPL so that others can follow up on his work , but he has now said that he is going to try to complete it as well.

On the games it works with its quite impressive and there are fourms compiling lists of what works and what doesnt as we speak. Obviously it would be great if it worked flawlessly , but this would also lead to a lot of people using it for illegal activities.

At present it sits in a spot where those who are curious can test but since it doesnt work for everything they will continue to purchase as normal. And its not exactly easy to sort it all out - theres many guides and suggestions - but even the best of them dont hold all of the information.

Have been following the story since it was released. Lots of discussion, but very difficult at the moment to get the file.

Also - suspicious about the "stopped working in anger" bit - it is mentioned on all the forums. I wonder did he just make up that excuse, either he had got it working as best he could and can't do any more, or now he can continue working on it without being hounded about it.

I was on Waninkoko's site and he did post there that he had stopped work on it. to Quote ' 2008/09/19 - Congratulations! I don't care about who leaked Backup-Loader but now it's OFFICIALLY an abandoned project. Enjoy it.
    '

I assume he is just annoyed that it was released in beta stage and was buggy - plus it means he has no leverage now for getting some cash to delay the release.
