Downey's in Terenure might be your best bet. Personally I can only vouch for Wilson's in Blessington, who's absolutely top notch, and given my ridiculously incompetent evening's shooting, I'll be relying on him a while yet. :p

You could also try Irish Game Meats in Glenmalure, Co. Wicklow. They will have everything you need. The owner is Mick Healy 0404-46773.
Also be aware that a game dealers license is needed by one of the party when game or any wildlife is being sold. You can give it away without a license but you can't legally accept cash or trade.

Am aware of this.....hence why I am not selling the meat! As stated in my msg I normally shoot more than I need. So if somone wants some then I will gladly share with them , as too many people alrerady turn their nose up to game meat.

I do clean the meat myself, but that when it is for myself or somone who wants to try it for the 1st time. Since you say you know how you will be getting anything I get uncleaned.

I can't believe that some people feel funny in eating game. It's some of the best tasting and purest food we have in Ireland. People are so detached from the food source and process nowadays. If you ever have any extra game meat going begging Al, I'll happily take some off your hands. Waste not, want not!

Last time I was in Beshoffs on Howth pier they had some birds, the Spar at Malahide Marina has quail and did have rabbit but nobody bought them and you can get birds in the butcher nest to Costcutter in Lusk

Just a quick note to say thanks to Donal, who has sorted me out with a few birds to keep me going till I get back into the field. Some fine looking birds Donal(good shooting), I am sure going to enjoy these with a nice bottle of red from the rack. Thanks again , will let you know the results.

Does anyone ever have any spare duck or quail? I love all game birds but haven't had the chance to go out and shoot my own yet. I buy some from some of the butchers with varying degrees of quality. The Butchers in Terenure is usually excellent though when they have them in stock.

I'd just like to say a big thanks to C04433190. Thanks Ronan. The pheasant and guinea fowl were absolutely gorgeous. They went down a treat. I appreciate you going out your way to get me some. That's the great thing about boards, there are some genuine people on here who'll go out of their way for others. Thanks again and if you ever find you have anything spare, I'll always find a welcome pot for them! ;)

    Hi,

Is this aimed at me for some reason or have you got the wrong person? I dont know you and did not agree to give you any spare game birds. The only one who has contacted me to date is Big Al.

    Rgds,

    Donal

Apology to KS for above reaction. It was not called for. Thought I had let someone down with a promise I had made. What I did do was bring a couple with me today; so if someone is interested in them then PM me and I will let you have them. Within half hour of Leixlip would be fine. I was trying to contact you (bookiebasher) but PM does not seem to be working.

    Sorry again Kaizer_sore,

    Donal

No probs Donal. No offence taken mate. I hope you get someone to take your birds today. It's a shame to waste them. Let me know if they are going begging. K

No I was here looking for something as a gift for the hunter in my life and saw a comment which I wholeheartedly agreed with and couldn't help myself. :o

Was in Days Hotel in Park West yesterday at lunchtime. Had a look at the menu and lo and behold they had Game Pie on it.
Great, I thought, it's unusual to see game on a lunch time carvery so I'll have to have it.
It looked lovely as the chef cut through the pastry and scooped it up onto the plate.
"What's in the game pie?" I asked expecting to be told the usual- bit of rabbit, bit of duck, bit of pheasant etc.

"Turkey and Ham" he tells me!!!

I burst out laughing and said "You're advertising it as a game pie, where's the game?"

"What's Game?" says he and him with his chef's hat and apron on!

"Well, game is game - pheasant, rabbit, duck, deer and other things that are hunted and shot for food" I tell him.

"Oh," says he "well ours is turkey and ham"

Turned out to be a nice pie but I just had to laugh:D:D

    Hi,
I know the thread is a bit old but just for your info Superquinn in Lucan is stocking wild game meat. On reading the label it likes the company or person supplying is from Wicklow, there is pigeon, rabbit, pheasant anyway and maybe some more.

It's been a while since I've eaten pigeon and rabbit. I must give this place a try.
