    Hi all,

u guessed it, me and my wifey are going to Paris for 3 nights in october. What is good to see or avoid? We are staying in Montparnasse beside a metro station. I like painting so I might go to the Louvre.Apart from that I could use some advice.

    Thanks,

    Brian.

ps is there any other euro cities u cold recommend and why?, for short breaks, possibly with a 2yr old kid.

If it's your first time here then just do the usual touristy things. Louvre, open-top tour bus, boat trip on the Seine, Eiffel tower, Montmartre (Sacre cour), Notre Dame. That'll easily take up 3 days.

I'd definitely recommend getting the Paris Museum Pass - if you're going to do touristy stuff, it'll save you a fair amount.

If you or the wife like chocolate then head to Angelina's on Rue de Rivoli (near the Louvre) for the most incredible (and I mean incredible) hot chocolate in very comfortable surroundings - info link: http://www.biteofthebest.com/angelinas-hot-chocolate/

I'd also recommend the 40 minute train ride to Versailles - the gardens are amazing.

And if you like modern art then make sure to visit the Pompidou centre - and if you don't like modern art then just grab a coffee outside and look at all the passing people.

make sure you make full use of the free bikes (velib); had great fun cycling all over the place!

    Great thanks guys

what about markets, any good ones? also what about shopping. What about price of restaurants? I plan on splashing out one night, foie gras and all those very unethical foods I want to taste only once.

    Thanks,

    Briano.

I'd recommend avoiding any place that does not have an english menu outside. Also, be aware that if you have a drink (coke / coffee) outside a cafe instead of inside, you'll probably pay extra.

If your staying around Montparnasse, I recommend going to the market on Boulevard de Grenelle. Its on a Wednesday and Sunday. If you take a look at this website, you'll be able to find some markets http://www.parismarkets.net/

Just curious, when are you heading away? I'm heading on on the 9th October for a week.

The first time I ever went I went for 3 nights and got most of the touisty things done. In saying that I could have spent the 3 days in the Lourve and Musee d'Orsay alone. I agree with Ponster, open top bus tour will show you most of the sites and then decide what exactly you want to see.

    4.) Notre-Dame
    5.) Sacre-Coeur
    6.) Arc de Triomphe
    7.) Centre Georges Pompidou
    8.) Pantheon
    9.) Sainte-Chapelle
    10.) Hotel des Invalides

You'll easily keep yourselves occupied for 3 days, paris is great for just exploring by foot (not sure about weather in october though), the metro system is easy to use anyway. But the Louvre alone will easily kill the better part of one day, if you are planning on seeing the Mona Lisa be prepared to queue for a while.
If you wanted to go, Disneyland is only 30 - 45 minutes outside of the city. I'm sure the little one would enjoy the day trip.

    Have fun

I'd disagree if they only have 3 days in Paris in total.

I was there two weeks ago , did not get to see most of that - but consoled myself saying next time - which is a definite

Sacre Coeur - beautiful views, and the church looks stunning from below.

Arc de Triomphe looks good but incorporate into a few things, maybe head from there to the Champ D'elysse

Eiffel Tower, quieter , better atmosphere at night, looks awesome from te Trocadero

Notre Dame, loved it, from the book, the movies, let your imagination run a bit riot, then had a beuatifl mean just off there, was set menu 3 course 13 euro , can't go wrong

I'd suggest just relax, vist some cafes, have some pastries, enjoy what you get to see, but really, just chill , and with one except, french people are really nice, but it was bizarre, we were trying to order from a McDonalds as we had left our viewing of Tour dEiffel so late nothing else open, the girl refused to take the order in english , a few times despite a big mac being a ig mac on the menu !!!

    weird

    oh enjoy !

Why not? They still have 2 days to see the rest of Paris.

ahah not taking the order in english. was it because she didnt speak it or she didnt want to.

ii always found that funny about french service industry. they think they are too good to speak english but then you can just say "you work in mcdonalds"

Most people who work in Mcdonalds don't speak English. In every high-tourist area they try to have 50% of the staff who speak English but I wouldn't count on it.
