    Go to www.download.com

There is a number of free cleanup tools there. Enter in the search engine something like "pc cleanup" etc.

    See here too: http://www.pcworld.com/article/142370/free_file_cleanup_tools.html

    and here: http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Search/cleanup.html

NOTE: if your unsure what your doing, MAKE A RESTORE POINT FIRST or else don't try it.
If in doubt - leave it out. If its not broke - don't fix it!

Non-free, I can recommend a tool called "Window Washer" by Webroot.
One of the best, clear to use and is very safe.

You will be amazed how much hidden useless junk there actually is on your system.

    +1

if you need a lot more space...consider an additional internal or external hard drive. considering you described yourself as a "computer virgin", i'd go with the external. can pick up a 500gb ext for less than 100 squids these days...that should do ya flying...store all music, video etc on that and keep the internal for vital files. :D
