I have read lots of stuff previously about wireless problems with the Mac Os but luckily have never experienced them however since I upgraded last week to 10.5.5 I have had lots of disconnects with my Macbook and Airport Extreme.

It is obviously the macbook because if I turn Airport off and on it reconnects no problem and other wireless connections are not affected.

Anyone seeing similar problems since the upgrade.

I don't have a MacBook but both my Mac Mini and MacBook Pro on 10.5.5 have had no issues (connecting to an Airport Extreme as well) before and since the update. Does the MacBook not even attempt to automatically reconnect when it happens (and you have to turn Airport off/on)?

No, no effort to reconnect that I am aware of. Its strange because to now the wireless had been rock solid.

Hmmm, I only had similar problems with a Linksys router before that was on its' last legs. In that case it was the router though and I had to always turn the router off and back on again to get everything to reconnect until the next disconnect. Hopefully it's not similar in your case, indicating that the Airport card might be dying - I don't think it's 10.5.5 related at least.

I'm on a MacBook and I've had no Airport issues with 10.5.5. Did you try the Apple support forums?

How does the problem show itself ? For instance does the airport logo on the finder bar turn into a pie slice or just turn grey instead of black ? If the latter, when you click on the logo do you still see a list of local wireless access points ? Is yours there ? If this is the case try deleting the key from your keychain and rejoin the network from scratch. This means selecting the network from the list of those available and re-entering your WPA key. If you're not sure what it is then you can reveal it in your Keychain panel in /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access. Delete the old key here.

If the former then does clicking the logo say the airport is turned off. That may be a firmware issue. Download APGrapher and see if it reads the local networks while in this condition.

    Let us know the results.

Same issue with my Macbook. Its one year old, and I find myself having to turn off Airport and turn it back on. The signal bar is still full when I have this problem, it just doesn't connect to the net.

I hear its an unfortunate inevitability with airport from some pessimistic types :(
