Easy songs for a few inexperienced musicians

    Hi guys,

Just looking for some advice. Myself and a few mates are getting together in a rehearsal studio in a few weeks for a bit of a jam.

Nothing serious at all. We're just doing it for a bit of banter. But we're all pretty inexperienced on our instruments AND the singer is a female, so we need songs with female vocals.

As we're all just starting out, the last time we did it we played "yellow" by coldplay, "live forever" by oasis, "creep" by radiohead and one or 2 other simple tunes that I don't remember.

But we had a male vocalist then.

I'm a bit stuck for ideas this time around. Anyone got any suggestions?

    Many thanks.

I'm the drummer, btw, so I have a special interest in there being easy drums :P

Oh, and our guitarist is actually really good.

    What about -

    Alannah Myles - Black Velvet

Rainbow - Since you've been gone

KT Tunstall - Black Horse and the Cherry Tree

Am I in the right genre of music here, at all? :) I hope this helps anyway.

Teenage Kicks works very well with female vocals!

My Favourite Game - the Cardigans, not too tricky to play n obviously female vocals there too

    Last Night by the strokes

baker Street - Gerry rafferty/Foo Fighters

You don't need to stick with songs with female vocals....plenty of Muse stuff sounds great with female vocals! But if u def wanna go for female vocalists, try some regina spektor, martha wainwright or (dare i say it) avril lavigne, who has some pretty decent songs on her albums that were never released as singles.

My band has a female singer and we found these songs all worked very well, so give it a shot!

Anything by Amy MacDonald would be amazing really.
    get her chords on www.ultimate-guitar.com
Shes brilliant and would be great for a female vocalist.
Try her song called " Run "

Cheers guys. I really appreciate the ideas. I'll bring them tot he others, and we'll have a chat about them.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply. Some really interesting ideas. Hopefully we'll be able to put something together that doesn't sound too disastrous :P
