    Hi

silly question i have a upc digital hdmi box originally based on
    Philips DCR7101/03.

USB and LAN is deactivated and no manual was attached only
warranty card so i knew it was DCR7101 ;-)

Are USB and LAN usable in Netherlands?

And other question if the box is set with different code what is all
    possible?

Different channels i found out if i choose activation 101 for vienna instead of 601 for Graz in austria ;-)

From UPC i saw this data:

    UPC activationcode: 601
    Regioncode: 6
    Network ID: 43173
    Basefrequence: 418000
    Symbolrate: 6900
    QAM-Modulation: 256

    Box Software:

    PhilipsCE
    Hardware Version: 018.052
    Software Version: 3.5.0.21
    Bootloader Version: 14

Can i use LAN or USB with different Activationcode?
It seems to be turned of in austria :-(

Also on demand videos can not be recorded but with scart and recorder it is possible so why not possible on box if i can not get it from it?

Would it be possible to use some other device with this activation code?
For example digi box from netherlands? Has it a more advanced software on it? Is LAN/USB in netherlands usable?

Thanks for infos and help in advance :-)

Are you in the Netherlands or Austria?

This forum is primarily Cable, MMDS and IPTV in Ireland.

On a general point the Cable & satellite Pay TV providers have to satisfy the content rights holders so they often are not permitted by their contracts to enable PVR on Films etc. Sky for example uses Macrovision so that many VHS or DVD recorders fail to properly record via SCART if the content requires it.

In any area the channels may be on a different channel plan and may not be the same list. With wrong area code you might loose channels. The actual channels that you can view thus depend on which channels are actually on your cable part and also what channels you have subscribed to.

LAN is usually for Interactive/IPTV applications that might not be supported by your operators firmware.

USB functions depend on firmware, operator and if it is "host", "slave" or "OTG" port. On one box (not UPC or Philips) I tested the LAN can be used for web browsing and the USB for mouse and keyboard.

Again the cable operator must decide what software and features they will pay for. Generally with cable they don't permit connection of your own receiver, though some countries are different. A different receiver that is actually supported may have no extra features.

Increasingly standard Cable Receivers will only work with a subset of features / channels, if at all.

In all countries in EU, you may only watch Pay Channels you paid for. Anything else is theft of service. Using a different receiver with a valid card is not criminal, but usually is contrary to your contract (civil law). UPC in Ireland does not permit an alternate receiver/decoder other than an official decoder.
