Advice on buying a Tvix 6500 player...

    Hi all,

I have been thinking of getting a Tvix Box for about a year - I currently have a basic enough ATMT or something 300GB avi player, which works very well for 700mb avi films etc.

I've upgraded to SkyHD in the last week after running SD Sky into my Bravia 46x3500 for nearly a year now (for shame) - and I've got the HD bug now. BT are also imminently upgrading my local exchange to uncapped 24MB BB soon enuff too, so happy days on the DL's.

What I want to know from the apparently numerous owners of the Tvix on this forum is:

    - Where to buy?? KJGlobal.co.uk or tvix.com etc?? Are there any transatlantic compatability issues/Will I need to buy an alternate power cord if bought from US etc?
    - Customs duties? How much and how to pay (if applicable)?
    - Where's the cheapest to get it from? - I'm thinking of buying 1TB SATA from a source over here instead of with the unit.

    Thanks in advance,

    Consultech.

I was looking to buy one earlier this year but in the end decided against it and bought a Mac mini instead. At the time importing from the U.S/Australia was the cheapest option because the European price was pure extortion. I haven't checked but I presume the European price has dropped from the €400+ price in January.

If you decide to import from the U.S. you have to remember that you will be charged import duty on the price of the item and the delivery charge plus an administration fee.

Cheapest U.S. price has always been tvixbox.com. The European stockists I looked at were kjglobal.co.uk, planet-shop.eu and divxplayer.nl. Check out the Australian models, they come with a built in tuner rather than a €100 addon. Australian stockist: medianow.com.au
