Hey there everyone, considering making a leap into running my own business fixing peoples pcs as a living, I'm good at it and i already do 3 a week inbetween my real job, If i wanted to set this up as my career how would i go about it, Is it as easy as printing the flyers and handing them all over the shop or what must i take into consideration, also would i have to purchase licensing for antivirus software even tho the end user would be non business. If anyone has any advice on this please let me know, at the moment i'm just tapping away doing an IT job, but i actually way prefer fixing pcs

Anybody--- i know its a bit vague, but basically i want to know what the process is to become a business, I've been fixing pcs for the last 6 years now and love doing it and want it to become a career. I just want to know the legalities that are involved?

Can I suggest you do a search. This popped up about 6months ago and a lot of good advice was given there.

Is there anyway you could set it up p/t? and see how it goes... like anyone who works would be happy to have someone come around in the evening to look at their PC.

As the poster above said this has been asked a few times here. The main theme of it was, yes you can make money from fixing h/w & s/w problems on PCs, but expect any amount of phone calls from the customer when they can't get their email / browser etc working...

Another thing was that people usually don't mind paying for hardware as its something they can see (eg a new hard-drive), but generally don't appreciate the amount of work involved in setting up software or re-installing windows.

Another area would be helping people set up their broadband / wifi, as most of the companies now just send you the modem in the post. But remember you'll be getting a call even if the internet is fine and they can't log into their AIB online banking!
