What is NOT your photography?

Following the Martin Parr thread, I came with an idea.

What is NOT your style of photography?

Most of the discussion in the above mentioned thread was caused by the latest work that Martin Parr displayed on his page.

Could you post some of your photos, that people like, however they are not your style, not your cup of tea, you just don't like them? Exactly those pictures that completely misjudge you and your photography.

I haven't actually done any fashion photography for a very good reason...

hence, can't post any of it. It undoubtedly is not my style of photography though.

I am no closer to finding that out than i am to finding what IS my photography.

    So much to learn.

Being new in photography, I absolutely have no idea what I am all about but pretty much trial and error. :o

I've yet to properly figure out what REALLY IS my photography, but I don't have a liking for gig shots in general.

Flash is not my photography! Where necessary bounce but definitely not direct in any way or form.

At the moment landscape / nature is defo not my thing but I'm working on it, it just doesnt grab me. I havent done any product photography either.

product photography is to photography what gravedigging is to landscape gardening.

Never understood the whole macro flower thing. Ok, you can get some great vivid colours, and closeups of insects, but never liked it really.

I have no interest in taking pictures of beggers, if I ever do pls feel free to take my camera and smash it up!

For some reason I dont like doing landscapes, should really give them a go!

Try a little different way of landscapes - in portrait orientation, for example (like on the cover of this book by Koudelka). Including detail at your feet, bridges, rails... Find what is interesting for you in countryside or the whole enviromnet.

This is not my photography - it's that of Steve McCurry :pac:

Sorry for the glib response, but everything else I tried to put down seemed worse. Photography is a function of your self, it's hard to find negatives. It's all a subject, however you see it.

Even throwaway snapshots can come back generations down the line to be something that folk will appreciate. The walking skeleton / corpse-mountain photos from the holocaust are amazing. I don't understand sports, but cream myself over some of the sports shots I see posted here.

Unless I misunderstood the OP, in which case I don't know what is not my photography. Perhaps HDR shots from inside churches? That kind of rubbish. Or maybe I just need to spend more time in a church, imagining it from deep shade to bright light?

Photography is like your penis, may not always look great, but feels fantastic! ;)

Whatever I say, it can't top that last one :D

But yeah, think about it... why do you take photos? Things are going on around out every second of the day, and you take shots of a .00000000 proportion of those things. Why aren't any of the other things captured? Because of you. That's what I mean by 'your photography is a function of you'

If you've decided to open the shutter, you've clearly done so for a reason. So what you just did had value for you. Regardless of what 'type' of photography you were (doing/enjoying/making) whatever. But yeah, it just felt good at the time ;)

    Does that make sense?
