076 prefix and mobile minute packages

    Hi,

I've got a problem: I thought the Skype To Go number (included in the Skype subscriptions) would have a regular landline prefix, but it has a 076 prefix which is considered a premium number by most phone companies here in Ireland and therefore calls to this number are not included in minute-packages or unlimited-landline-call-packages. For example calling a mobile in Europe with Skype To Go adds up (phone provider+Skype charges) to over 50 cent per minute. This is close to calling a European landline with my mobile without using Skype To Go. You can still save a couple of cents, but with the given charges I won't use the service too often and then I have to ask myself why I'm paying the Skype subscription: The To Go number was the only reason I signed up.

It is not stated clearly on the website that the Skype To Go number comes with a non-landline prefix. Well, they don't say it's a landline, but they suggest that this number might be included in your minute-package, which it is not (at least here in Ireland).

There is an Skype Extra called "MyToGo Remote Calling" that looks like an interesting alternative, but as far as I can see it's Windows only.

Do you guys have any suggestions how to tackle this? Do you know which mobile providers include the 076 prefix in their packages?
What are your tricks to call abroad when your not at your computer?

Don't get me wrong here! I save a lot of money with Skype and I'm very happy with it. I'm using the service for a couple of years now and the audio quality has improved tremendously in recent time. Most calls I make have the same quality as "traditional" phone calls.

    Cheers,
    Max

I call 076 numbers from from my BT and Vodafone (contract) phones and do not pay for calling 076 numbers. Cannot speak for other networks but I think 3 was the same. I went for Blueface as they give you the option of area code as well as a 076 number
