What to upgrade my camera to ?

    Hi all
I've been quite on the boards for quite a while, the weather has been a killer for my type of photography, anyway I entered a competition last May and I got a phone call on Friday to let me know that I was a "winner", it was for a calender from Top Oil, so I've got my own month :)

The nice surprise was that I won a 500e voucher for a camera shop :D so the question is what should I get with the voucher ?

    So far I have:
    Canon 350D (8mp)
    Canon EFS 17-80mm
    Canon 80-300mm
    Speedlite 420 (i think that's the model)

I'm fairly happy with the lenses they work well for what I want to do so I was thinking of maybe upgrading the camera itself. I'm setting about a 1,000e give or take a little bit (trade in, voucher & some more cash).
I'd like to increase on the fps (currently 3) and also increase the megapixel's.

    Should I go for a Canon 40D ?
    Thanks for any suggestions

BTW I think they picked either of these two photo's

40D would suit you nicely quicker AF and more FPS will insure you get more shots live above!
Also better iso handling so you'll get better shots at dusk!

    Congrats on the competition,
Also would you not consider a new lens 70-200 comes to mind...

    Congratulations!
And I am glad that the foxes are back :-)

If you don't require crop factor, what about to wait for 5D (not MkII)? I just love that camera...

    FPS matters...

OP, your choice is 40D or 50D. I use the 40D for its fps and it's great - it's ever so slightly faster than the 50D.

shoelaceface: another nonsense response like this one and you will find yourself either with a card or a ban.

what Calina said, faster FPS helps. 40D also handles noise better than the 350D.

have u also tried other better or higher end lenses? u'd be surprise with some lenses, they most likely to be faster and sharper.

I'd wait till the 5DmkII is released then go for a second hand 5DmkI if I was you. Great camera and you should get it for a fairly reasonable price at that stage...

Nice shots by the way and well done on the prize!

    Also, lads lighten up.

I think his tongue was firmly in his cheek for that one :p

Thanks all, the 40D looks perfect but the new 50D looks even nicer :o
I think I'll wait till near xmas and ask the "family" for a contribution :p turns out that I have to go to a dinner to get the prize and it will be near the end of the year :(

As for the lenses, I either find myself generally over the 200mm mark or below 85mm and there is no way I could justify myself getting one of the "white" lenses

BTW with the fox's I was visiting them throughout the summer but the weather was so bad I didn't take the 350D out due to the rain and low light levels.

    Thanks everyone

If you ask me, 50D is pointless. It costs more than a 5D sure...
