You can play VOB files with a app like VLC or convert them to xvid (Playable in media centre etc with codecs) using AutoGK

    Hope this helps

yea when you rip a dvd to disk thats what you get - an audio and a video ts folder, the audio folder is usually empty and the video folder will have vob files in them, as has been mentioned you can play vob files with VLC player, the vob files are very big however so if you are looking to convert multiple dvd's your best bet would be to convert to divx or xvid, theres tonnes of info and free tools to do this on the web

download VLC program ,then click menu, file open disk to play dvd, file open directory to play ripped dvd from the hardrive .Google free dvd ripper ,like handbrake program, dvdshrink etc to rip dvds to the hardrive.
google vlc program, and how to rip a dvd to a harddrive.
see www.videolan.org realplayer basic program plays dvds too.

I'm going to assume that these dvds aren't copyrighted.
